Let’s face it, it will be many years before the country’s flood defences are of a suitable standard to protect towns and villages in the high risk areas. If we are to believe all the warnings of Global Warming, especially after the UN sponsored report published on 19 February 2001, these defences may never be enough. Our own Environment Agency estimates that there are several million properties at risk, of these about 2 million will be unable to find insurance cover, or will have to accept an excess clause of maybe £25,000 or more. Two more reports issued by The Norwich Union and The Sun Alliance insurance companies show that the situation is not getting any better. According to the Sun Alliance ‘Two million households or five million people in the UK are at risk of flooding, equivalent to 10% of the population. 1.5 million people are at high risk from flooding’ It would seem that the events of the past few years are here to
stay and will probably become a regular occurance. |
As an example; it is possible to protect a ‘normal’ small house i.e. Two entrance doors, ventilation bricks, waste pipes, W.C. bowl, Gas appliance flue and utilities access panels for under £250! We will provide you with all the information needed to help you protect your property. Included will be plans for making the frames, a list of all parts needed and where to source these parts. Most of the information contained is basic common sense. We are just bringing together several ideas in a simple, easy to use page that should save you many hours of thought and searching. If you have a basic understanding of woodworking and DIY methods, you
should have no trouble in constructing the frames as described in the
plans, if you are not able to do it yourself, find a local tradesman
to do the work for you. |
