apace.org flood defences

  • Have you suffered the trauma of flooding?
  • Are you at risk from flooding?
  • Have you taken precautions to protect your property, your valuable home and its contents?
  • Have you considered the danger to your family’s health from contamination by raw sewage?

Let’s face it, it will be many years before the country’s flood defences are of a suitable standard to protect towns and villages in the high risk areas.

If we are to believe all the warnings of Global Warming, especially after the UN sponsored report published on 19 February 2001, these defences may never be enough.

Our own Environment Agency estimates that there are several million properties at risk, of these about 2 million will be unable to find insurance cover, or will have to accept an excess clause of maybe £25,000 or more.

Two more reports issued by The Norwich Union and The Sun Alliance insurance companies show that the situation is not getting any better.

According to the Sun Alliance ‘Two million households or five million people in the UK are at risk of flooding, equivalent to 10% of the population. 1.5 million people are at high risk from flooding’

It would seem that the events of the past few years are here to stay and will probably become a regular occurance.
It is better to be proactive than to be reactive – be prepared.
There are many and varied flood protection systems on the market, some of these are simple, some are complicated. Most are expensive.

We have developed a simple, effective and inexpensive flood protection system that you can construct yourself. We are offering you the chance to protect your property for the minimum expense.

As an example; it is possible to protect a ‘normal’ small house i.e. Two entrance doors, ventilation bricks, waste pipes, W.C. bowl, Gas appliance flue and utilities access panels for under £250!

We will provide you with all the information needed to help you protect your property. Included will be plans for making the frames, a list of all parts needed and where to source these parts.

Most of the information contained is basic common sense. We are just bringing together several ideas in a simple, easy to use page that should save you many hours of thought and searching.

If you have a basic understanding of woodworking and DIY methods, you should have no trouble in constructing the frames as described in the plans, if you are not able to do it yourself, find a local tradesman to do the work for you.

THESE PLANS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD – FREE.

In the meantime – some important advice.
A large percentage of modern cars have low-mounted air intake pipes before the air filter, many of these are mounted behind the front bumper which is often below the level of flood waters. When you drive through deep water, the water is sucked into your engine and causes a hydraulic seizure.

THINK VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE DRIVING INTO DEEP POOLS.

If you are in an area susceptible to flooding you might consider disconnecting the air intake at the air filter, this should not affect the performance of your vehicle – it may just make it a little nosier. If you are unsure what effect this may have, seek advice from your garage.
